CHING WORDS

Ching Words is a brand new word game published as a book on Amazon and played on any newspaper horse racing page or Internet race card. The purpose of this site is to study real life race card examples and show how the game works in regard to picking winners and each way places.

In Ching Words we identify or make words in a horse's name. The process is simple, educational, and massively exciting when the end result produces a winner or each way place.
There are three rules that govern the whole process - they are simple, effective, and optional. You don't have to use them!THE THREE RULES1- One letter option, allowed to be placed anywhere in a horse's name
I will explain the rule. Say for instance a horse is call MEAD. I could put a T next to the A and make the word MEATD - like a form of anagram. If the horse is called MEADY AND BOY I can do similar add the free letter anywhere in the name sequence - MEADY AND BOYS. In this instance an S on Boy making it plural to spell BOYS. The main consensus of the rule, you have one free letter to place anywhere in the horse's name or name sequence - it's optional.2- Any letter in the horse name or placed letter can double or triple. This is a very simple rule to grasp. Say, a horse is called BELARNO. You can double the L in BELARNO to make the word BELL. Or, if the horse was called BERNIE you could add the free letter an L to make BELRNIE and then double the inserted L to make BELLRNIE. Any letter in the horse's name or any added letter can double or triple.3- Similar sounding letters. Out of the three rules this is possibly the most difficult to understand. But, there are only three so you have very little to think about - easily learned.
Basically, S and Z are the same, G and J the same and C and K. It means, words can be spelt with greater degrees of flexibility.
Here are two examples conveying the point. Say you were looking for a word meaning Guard, Sentinel. A horse is called ZENTRY. Nearly perfect because Sentry is a Guard. But, is spelt with S not Z. However, with the help of rule 3 we can take the Z in Zentry as being an S - ZENTRY. Another example might be the word KANE. Perhaps we are looking for something made of wood, Cane (A Stick) or Cane (Sugar Cane). Either way, it matters not we can treat the K in KANE as a C so we make our word.EXAMPLE - LAUREL PARK

The horse was WISE AND ELEGANT, the Ching Word, WHIZZ (clever guy). To make the word fit the horse all three rules must come into play. Rule -1 the free letter inserted is H between W and I - WHISE. Rule - 2 the S is doubled - WHISSE. Rule - 3 is applied S and Z being the same so the two S's become Z's. Thus the anagram is complete - WHIZZ E AND ELEGANT. The horse won at 3/1 odds.Now an excellent example from racing in the UK - the odds of the winner, massive!

Now allow me to take you through the process of making some fantastic words - to make some fantastic wins.
There were four qualifiers from the above field. Deafening Silence, Collectors Item, Isaac Des Obeaux, and Grand Albert.In DEAFENING SILENCE I doubled the already present E and added the one free letter a D. So I made the Ching Word - DEED AFENING SILENCE (singular, plural apply).
In COLLECTORS ITEM the word CO already there as a stand alone word.
ISAAC DE OBEAUX I added the free letter an S between the two A's and made the word ISAS AC DE OBEAUX. An ISA is a tax friendly governmental bond offered by banks.
Finally, in GRAND ALBERT I added the free letter an A in front of GRAND to get the words A GRAND (thousand pounds or dollars)

AnalysisOut of the four horse's above I picked out three to back with low stakes. I omitted Collectors Item. The case for doing so clear. The L at the side of the horse's name was enough to put me off. Ching Words is a great compliment to form study - they work well together. Backing a horse who finished last on it's previous outing is sheer suicide no matter how good the word. YOU DON'T HAVE TO WIN!
I say it all the time in the Ching Words book - points or prizes. If you do speculate though, it can still be profitable without breaking the bank or risking the earth. Just to prove the point here is a race run on the 15th of may 2026 at Aintree.
I backed ATLANTIC CITY to finish in the first three places at odds of 1.80 on Betfair. The horse duly obliged finishing in 2nd place.Backing at odds on is not always a good thing but the Ching Word was a good one and the form of horse and rider (Sean Bowen) was pretty impressive to go with it - especially when considering recent win results of the jockey. You have to be sure in your mind and selective in terms of the type of race you are considering. But it shows flexibility in relation to making words and betting for a little profit whilst playing the word game with family, friends, or even on your own. Adds to the excitement with out fear of bankruptcy! Below is the card for this race.

Analysis
I made two innovative Words from the Ching Words. One was not totally brilliant but i felt there was a semblance, the other a spot on word. In Atlantic City I made the word ATOLL using the rules. My added letter was an O and I doubled the already present LATOLL ANTIC CITYAn atoll is basically a coral reef (Island). Water absorbed into Earth so definitely a link. The second word was a good one - A Tool. A Tool can be a slang, insulting type word to describe a Twerp, Idiot, or Fool. I separated the already present A from the name so it stood alone and added my free letter an O and doubled it.A TOOL ANTIC CITYLook, i made one great word and one iffy word. But all things being equal. The champion jumps jockey in brilliant form sitting on a horse with pretty good figures. Olly Murphy the trainer top stats at the course (Aintree) and a couple of Ching Words thrown in for good measure - what more could one ask for. Plus, i was not expecting to win or even trying. I took three places and made a small profit - and beat my rivals in a word contest!
Perhaps not everyone will see it like this but it's my take of the situation and serves as a reasonable example.ABBREVIATIONS
This is an important part to making words in a horse's name or spotting them when already there. Because abbreviations are short they are excellent word material to use. Hardly rocket science when you think about it. It's virtually impossible to make long winded words in horse names - the shorter the better.The key element regarding abbreviations when playing Ching Words on a race card or newspaper race page - be thorough in examination! Do not leave anything to chance. Check, Check, and Check again. This is why I beat the drum in regard to using a dictionary and thesaurus. I personally use Dictionary.com. I check every word in a thorough process and it's amazing how many abbreviations you can find. Below a perfect example, a race run on Saturday May the 16th at Newbury. Ching Words took many years to develop. In fact, what started as a seed took over forty years to blossom into a full fledged word game. The Ching Words are special, derived from the Confucian classic I Ching. They are not any old words but rather words formed from timing and tense. They resonate universally with the symbolism of the oracle at any particular moment in time - time being the essence as opposed to other factors.So, the Ching Words, special, important. But you can only pack so many words into a required space - you can't get em all so to speak. Which is why it's essential that you look at making words from words, create alternatives. Ching words can be played for either points or prizes some people like a bet others can enjoy the game itself. Here is a word game that unites the family spirit in a big way. Horseracing is a world wide sport beamed in by satellite from many countries.
